This year marked the seventh annual Evidence-Based Teaching Academy (EBTA), and it was our most dynamic yet! We welcomed instructors from the Penn State Eberly College of Science alongside five graduate students and, for the first time, two faculty members from the College of Engineering. Three outstanding learning assistants joined the team, guiding activities and sharing their perspectives throughout the week. More than 20 volunteer mentors and facilitators helped make the academy a success.
Each day centered on a different theme, with interactive “Deep Dive” sessions in the mornings covering lesson design, assessment, and accessibility, followed by “EBT in Practice” case studies that brought evidence-based strategies to life. Afternoons offered “Project Focus” time for tackling teaching challenges with mentor and peer support, plus “Pop Out” workshops on timely topics like AI in teaching, CCEDIR, and working with learning assistants. We also tried new ways to help faculty reflect more deeply on their teaching.
Community building was woven throughout the week, with time for reflection, group discussions, and plenty of informal networking. Many participants left with fresh strategies, new connections, and a sense of belonging to a vibrant, supportive teaching community. While the week was full—and sometimes challenging—the overall mood was one of celebration and inspiration. EBTA continues to be a place where teaching and learning thrive together.
Looking ahead, our EBTA Reunion will move to the spring to allow more time for reflection and reconnection. Don’t miss our Innovation Showcase in December—a great opportunity to share progress on teaching or EBTA projects.
