The recent Evidence-Based Teaching Academy (EBTA) reunion showcased faculty progress on various teaching projects. The reunion underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation, and support in enhancing teaching practices and addressing challenges in science education.

Exploring AI, Teaching Strategies, and Collaboration

Faculty discussed plans for teaching graduate classes, participating in equity book clubs, and integrating AI tools for grading and analyzing student feedback. Innovative teaching strategies, such as standards-based grading and classroom engagement tools, were highlighted.

Addressing Operational Challenges and Burnout

Challenges with large class sizes and implementing new activities were key topics. Faculty shared experiences with piloting new activities and received positive feedback. Concerns about faculty burnout and the need for mental health support were addressed, with suggestions for less frequent meetings and streamlined workflows.

Enhancing Learning Experience and Grading Standards

Efforts to enhance student learning through redesigned assignments and standards-based grading were discussed. Positive results from reflection assignments and the use of dashboards to visualize student progress were shared.

Engaging Students in Online Courses

Personal interaction and clear communication in online courses were emphasized, with strategies like weekly video announcements and improved course organization.
