Welcome to the Grove Center for Excellence in Science Education, formerly known as the Center for Excellence in Science Education (CESE). Since 2010, the center’s mission has been to provide faculty and students with a collaborative educational network that promotes excellence in science teaching and learning. The center’s programming has always included the support of Eberly College of Science faculty through their partnership in the facilitation of activities, creation of materials, and leadership to support initiatives. We host workshops and seminars, lead the Food for Thought educational discussion series, support communities of practice, provide one-on-one consultations, curate and share educational resources, provide faculty with the opportunity to showcase their educational innovations, support teaching innovation scholars, welcome new faculty to the community, and lead the Evidence-Based Teaching Academy, a weeklong experience to introduce evidence-based teaching practices.
The center was established by the Eberly College of Science in fall 2010, and since 2013 it has had endowed support through the Cada R. and Susan Wynn Grove Endowment for Excellence in Science Education. In 2024, Susan Grove formalized an irrevocable future commitment of $2.25 million to endow the center, which she and her late husband, Cada, had given so much support to over the years. With this decision to provide additional support, CESE was renamed the Cada R. and Susan Wynn Grove Center for Excellence in Science Education.
Moving forward, the Grove Center for Excellence in Science Education will continue its work to support the collaborative educational community of scholars in the Eberly College of Science while expanding its support and communities of practice to include science education research, the application of educational technology, and design strategies that enhance instruction, assessment, multimedia integration, and accessibility.
Our community values and guiding principles are based on building inclusive educational networks and collaborations that support the continued development of all members. We focus on inclusive, research-based teaching and learning methods and strive to provide equitable and successful learning experiences for all learners.
Our team offices are conveniently located on the second floor of Ritenour Building, and our collaborative space can be found in Room 243. With a diverse range of skills, we’re excited to create, innovate, and learn together.
About Us
We are a collaborative community of educators, designers, technology specialists, and support staff working as a team to share research-based pedagogies and curricular design approaches that support engaging learning experiences for all students. Unlike many other teaching and learning centers, we also rely on members of our educational community in the Eberly College of Science as well as the University to participate as partners in co-leading professional development programming as well as the sharing of innovative teaching approaches. Our partners include faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate learning assistants, and staff. Through these partnerships, we can impact the culture of teaching and learning and continually grow as professionals.
