Associate Teaching Professor, Learning Assistant Coordinator

About Me:

I am an associate teaching professor of biology. I teach and coordinate two large introductory biology courses, working closely with laboratory teaching assistants and lecture learning assistants.

How can we engage our students in the classroom?

I believe students learn best when they are curious and making connections. My goal is to help students think critically, strengthen their learning skills, and feel confident tackling challenging biological concepts. Learning assistants are a tremendous asset to the classroom and have helped me move closer to achieving my teaching goals.

About Me:

It is my overarching goal to motivate instructors to fully adopt evidence-based teaching methods as well as inclusive and equitable practices. Such teaching strategies in the classroom can attract and retain diverse talent in STEM and empower students to reach higher levels of cognition. As the new faculty development coordinator, I aim to build a community for instructors around these themes and to ensure that instructors and faculty feel included and supported as they pursue these goals.

About Me:

My areas of focus are in creating accessible multimedia, including graphics, videography, photography, audio and interactive content.

Within the Grove Center, I work to support faculty content creation, accessibility implementation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) through workshops, group, and individual consultations.

I am passionate about incorporating UDL principles in course content and enjoy finding ways to enhance course multimedia to support success for all our students.

Why is content accessibility and Universal Design important to me?

It allows us to work together to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for the entire university community.
