About Me:
I am a teaching professor of physics. I work to promote evidence-based pedagogy and inclusive teaching. My primary research area is physics education research with particular interest in helping students gain more agency and control over their learning.
How can we engage our students in the classroom?
I do not know the answer, but I feel like instructional "presence" in the course is a crucial first step. This is of course challenging in online environments or in big classes or when trying to reach out to students who are more reluctant.
Ask me about: Education research, online education, alternative grading, self-regulated learning.
Fun fact about me:
I took the fly-fishing class at Penn State and got an F. I stopped attending when the pandemic started (as I was now trying to handle my own classes). I still consider myself ok at fly fishing so I would say that my terrible psu transcript is not representative of my ability to get fish out of the water.
