Associate Research Professor of STEM Education

About Me:
I am an Associate Research Professor of STEM Education, and my job is split across the University Park and Harrisburg campuses. I am working to help streamline the introductory STEM courses across the university. My hope is that this will help students who change campuses, and that faculty from across all campuses can feel like they can lean on one another and share ideas on how to best structure these courses. As part of these efforts, I collaborate with the Grove Center to cultivate faculty development opportunities.

“How can we improve student success in introductory STEM course?”
I wish I had a perfect answer. This is a complex problem that so many people have tried to solve for decades. STEM courses require students to think in ways that are challenging -- it’s easy for students to lose confidence in themselves and it’s hard to always see how the content is relevant to their lives. My goal is to help students believe in themselves, and help faculty design their courses in such a way that students can succeed.

Data-driven decision making, assessing student learning, learning assistants, faculty development opportunities, educational research

Fun fact about me: I love stand-up comedy, especially at local establishments where folks are participating just as a hobby.
