Teaching Professor, Physics

About Me:

I am a teaching professor of physics. I work to promote evidence-based pedagogy and inclusive teaching. My primary research area is physics education research with particular interest in helping students gain more agency and control over their learning.

How can we engage our students in the classroom?

I do not know the answer, but I feel like instructional "presence" in the course is a crucial first step. This is of course challenging in online environments or in big classes or when trying to reach out to students who are more reluctant.

Ask me about: Education research, online education, alternative grading, self-regulated learning.

Fun fact about me:

New Faculty Development Coordinator

About Me:

It is my overarching goal to motivate instructors to fully adopt evidence-based teaching methods as well as inclusive and equitable practices. Such teaching strategies in the classroom can attract and retain diverse talent in STEM and empower students to reach higher levels of cognition. As the new faculty development coordinator, I aim to build a community for instructors around these themes and to ensure that instructors and faculty feel included and supported as they pursue these goals.

I am passionate about incorporating UDL principles in course content and enjoy finding ways to enhance course multimedia to support success for all our students.

Why is content accessibility and Universal Design important to me?

It allows us to work together to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for the entire university community.
